James Law Office PLLC traces its roots back to 1912 when A.F. James first opened a practice in Gooding Idaho. Guy Bissel also maintained a law practice in Gooding during its earliest days. The remnants of those two firms joined in 1964 to form James Hobdey and Shaw. James Law Office, PLLC, continues to practice at the same location established in 1964.

Located at 125 5th Ave. West, Gooding, Idaho, James Law Office, PLLC remains dedicated to providing strong, principled legal representation. Led by Joseph F. James and Katie Sliman, we honor our history by standing with our clients—protecting their rights, navigating complex legal challenges, and upholding the values of trust, professionalism, and justice that have been the cornerstone of our firm for generations.

Joseph James

senior Attorney

Born and raised in Gooding, Idaho, Joseph F. James has been a dedicated legal advocate for over 25 years. As an accomplished trial attorney with extensive litigation experience, he has built a strong reputation for delivering strategic, results-driven representation. Mr. James began his career as a law clerk and prosecutor. He has also served as an indigent defense attorney across the Magic Valley. In addition to his clerkship and criminal practice, he has extensive experience in Civil Litigation, Estate Planning & Probate, Family Law, Adoption, Guardianship and Conservatorships, Contracts, Real Estate, and Administrative Law.

Mr. James brings a wealth of experience across multiple practice areas, ensuring that clients receive fair and effective legal representation. He is admitted to practice in all Idaho State and Federal Courts, as well as the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Whether navigating complex legal disputes or guiding families through important life decisions, Mr. James remains committed to protecting his clients’ rights and securing the best possible outcomes.

KATIE SLIMAN

Associate Attorney

Katie earned her law degree at the University of Idaho College of Law in 2022 after receiving her Bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho in 2019. While in law school, Katie externed with District Judge Rosemary Emory in Jerome and Gooding counties, and District Judge Eric Wildman in Twin Falls county.

Katie strives to create long term relationships with her clients and she enjoys assisting her clients through each new stage of their lives. Her practice includes Estate Planning & Probate, Civil Litigation, Family Law, Adoption, Guardianships and Conservatorships, Real Estate and Business Transactions, and Criminal Defense. She is admitted to practice in the State of Idaho, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Idaho.

A Southern Idaho native, Cassandra is fluent in English and Spanish. She understands the challenges non-native speakers face in the legal system and is committed to guiding clients through the process. Working closely with the firm’s attorneys, she helps ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.
